Crysis 2007

The rescue operation smoothly flows into a large-scale war involving aircraft, helicopters, tanks, and other machinery, and narrow-eyed warriors are replaced by well-fed “clams” of clearly extraterrestrial origin. Archaeologists who arrived at the excavations of the ancient temple, instead of bronze toilets and mummies, find someone else's ship, stuffed to the eyeballs with aggressive "brothers in mind." Not having time to recover from a secular dream, they decide to colonize the planet, changing its climate in accordance with their ideas about comfort and arranging a global cooling. Such a dramatic change of scenery is only beneficial - not every day you will see a frozen jungle, but your impressions would be much brighter if the developers didn’t dissolve their intentions in advance.

Copy of reality

They tried to compensate for their inability to keep their mouths shut with a bewitchingly beautiful environment: it was one thing to look at brilliant pictures in a magazine and quite another to watch innovative technologies live. The sun, traveling in the sky in real time, exudes very natural light, and lush tropical vegetation splits it into golden glare. Without exception, all objects cast correct shadows, bushes gently part under the pressure of armored legs, a carpet of fine foliage covers the ground, and butterflies and birds rush about in the air of race. If not for the whistle of bullets, this paradise would be quite suitable for a honeymoon.

The painted world lives in full accordance with Newton’s laws, so a carelessly thrown plastic bottle will surely roll down the sand, and an enemy struck in the thicket will fall and sway the nearest branches. These seemingly insignificant details turn each shootout into a truly spectacular battle: when automatic bursts literally cut down feeble trees, you instinctively pull your head into your shoulders, fearing that the hot lead from the monitor screen would not hit directly on the forehead. Most of the buildings on the island are made up of thin tin sheets and, under the influence of a blast wave, turn into a shapeless pile of rubbish. In a successful scenario, you can easily bury a platoon of soldiers in one barn, which, in fact, you have to do the first time.

Smart movie

Freedom reigning on the island, which allows you to independently decide where to go first, in practice translates into quickly annoying walks through the jungle swarming with Koreans. He grabbed the jeep, drove to the village, blew everyone to hell, got to the next village, repeated the operation - after a loud advertising campaign, you expect more. However, patience pays off handsomely in truly vivid episodes - which is just a massive American attack on the bay occupied by the enemy. An ordinary action literally before our eyes turns into an epic blockbuster with airplanes roaring overhead, bloody flashes on the horizon and the sky boiling from explosions. Then follows a no less spectacular tank battle, a visit to an alien ship and a harsh test in the frozen jungle.

Crysis, like a multi-ton truck, painfully slowly gets underway, but, rolling, accelerates faster, allowing the viewer to replay any scene in dozens of ways. The reason for this was the overly savvy Koreans, well aware of their own vulnerability, and therefore trying to move with short march-throws from cover to cover. If there are no reliable shelters, the soldiers hide in dense thickets, cover each other with heavy fire and use grenades to smoke the enemy. A comrade who fell near a stationary machine gun is immediately replaced by another shooter; the crew of a lighted jeep leaves the car so as not to explode with it; the boat driver, having lost a partner, immediately leaves for a safe distance, so that the enemy does not get the equipment - in the actions of the military, in most cases, the real logic can be traced.

Surprise did not work

In turn, the non-human survivability of the protagonist, which cannot be explained in most similar works, was reinforced by a serious scientific theory. Each member of the elite squad is chained in a special nanosuit, which not only resists direct hits, but also changes the characteristics of the human body. Throwing all the resources to increase strength, the fighter begins to jump higher and turn over colossal burdens. Focusing on speed - accelerate for a short time, and when invisibility is turned on - quietly penetrate enemy bases. The greatest effect of the spacesuit of the future is felt in the multi-user mode, where an opponent suddenly jumping onto the roof or appearing behind his back can confuse all the cards.

Despite the outstanding characteristics, the suit does not replete with pockets, so it will not work to drag the arsenal of the middle army with you - you will have to choose what is more important in this situation. But any weapon can be easily modified by attaching a flashlight, laser sight or grenade launcher to it. The number of variations, thus, reaches an inconceivable value, opening up boundless scope for study and creative experiments. Shimmering in the rays of its own glory, like a multifaceted diamond, the creation of the Croatian studio guarantees an interesting pastime for a wide audience. Although an overly aggressive advertising campaign still spoiled the impression, and instead of a stunning surprise, only predictably high-quality entertainment was obtained that did not go beyond the scope of the genre.

In addition to stunning detailing and "correct" physics, the artists used a number of special effects to help get used to the role. For example, during targeted shooting, the contour of the weapon is clearly outlined, and the picture is blurred on the sides - in the same way a person sees in real life. With sharp turns and jerks, the surrounding objects are “smeared”, and after a close explosion they become cloudy and double. Owners of high-quality audio systems run the risk of deafening - the rumble from a bursting grenade or a collapsed building mercilessly tormenting the eardrums, as if the war was going right outside the window. Every second, an avalanche of various sounds rains down on a stunned player: somewhere a machine gun chirps, sand creaks underfoot, birds chirp in a bush, and Korean war comes from behind palm trees. Control over all the resources of the nanosuit is organized as conveniently and simply as possible - you can get the desired effect in a matter of seconds. To cope with the transport is also easy, but for some reason the grenade launcher cannot work together with the rifle itself - you have to choose: shoot in bursts or "spit" with explosive shells. Throughout the game, the hero travels around a huge island, fighting with people and monsters. Hiking is generously diluted with trips by jeeps, trucks and tanks, and the landscape does not have time to get bored due to the change of scenery. Freezing the jungle was a great idea. Crysis causes mixed feelings. On the one hand, it’s impossible not to be imbued with grandiose battles in a world as close to reality as possible, on the other hand, I would like to properly pour developers for excessive talkativeness. Revealed surprises halve your impressions.
